About three weeks ago I went on an eight-day mission trip to Ecuador, my first international travel! It was one of the best experiences of my life. The prayers leading up to the trip, the beauty I saw there in all of God's Creation, and the faith I was forced to learn when I got home, will always be a testimony in my heart of God's amazing power in my life! Although God kept me safe and healthy the whole time I was gone, when I got home, the first morning back I woke up with every symptom of malaria... and I had a bite! Fever, chills, soreness, a POUNDING headache, congestion, everything. I was MISERABLE! My mom of course took me straight to the doctor where we waited in a lobby for two and a half hours to even see a nurse. This gave me plenty of time to think about all the possibilities. Even if I didn't have malaria, there are endless other possibilities of diseases or infections I could have picked up in a foreign country in South America! I had googled the symptoms of malaria before we left that morning just to make sure, and so I had certainly seen the part in every article I found about how "malaria often ends in death" or "has a fatal effect." I wasn't really scared of dying, somehow that did not even seem real. I had prayed for months about going on the trip, it was totally an answer to prayers so I didn't think God will just kill me off as soon as I got home! And I had prayed that I wouldn't get sick at all, don't ask me why He decided to give me a headache! But I mean, it could happen... and so I looked at my mom and tried to figure out if she was worried and hiding it or if she knew I would be alright too. I made sure she could see that I was healing fast. A few hours later all my tests had come back normal except the x-ray so my doctor told me he did not care WHAT I called my strange disease as long as my fever broke and I responded to the medicine within twenty-four hours. I decided on the "Ecuadorian Jungle Fever"! That is... after I did start to get a little better! I had faith that God would take care of me and He was faithful to me! Now I'm good as new! I can't believe it's only been that long ago!

We packed all kinds of adventures (and landscapes!) into those eight days, but my favorite part of the whole trip was probably visiting the church in Santo Domingo. That's not what I was expecting because I really didn't even know that was part of our agenda until like the night before, and I had been so excited about the canoe ride up the river to the jungle outreach for months that I thought I would burst. Like I've said before, I am not naturally a very friendly person, but I always pray for boldness. Between the Bible class and church service I decded to go up and introduce myself to one of the girls there. Her name was Fernanda and she had just become a Christian. I think she told me she got baptized on February 3rd. She also is getting married on the same day as my sister, so that was pretty cool. She didn't speak any English so I got to use all the Spanish I've been learning over the last couple years. Obviously God blessed me with a LOT of boldness to go and talk to her. After that a lot of the younger girls came up and talked to me for a while. When we left that church I knew the people there had been encouraged. When I go back I want to be perfectly fluent... and I do want to go back!

{my favorite song}
There ain't nothing that can't be done
By me and God
Ain't nobody come in between me and God
One day we'll live together
Where the angels trod
Me and God

Early in the morning talking it over
Me and God
Late at night talking it over
Me and God
You could say where like two peas in a pod
Me and God

He's my Father
He's my friend
The beginning
And the end
He rules the world
With a staff and rod
We're a team
Me and God

I am weak and he is strong
Me and God
He forgives me when I'm wrong
Me and God
He's the one I lean on
When life gets hard
Me and God

He's my Father
He's my friend
The beginning
And the end
He rules the world
With a staff and rod
We're a team
Me and God

He rules the world
With a staff and rod
We're a team
Me and God

We're a team
Me and God
